Companion Animals Can Save Lives

Research shows that 7% of adults over the age of 60 suffer from clinical depression, yet if left untreated it can lead to increased health risks for our elderly. With spring in the air, taking a companion dog for a walk is the perfect method for helping to fight the symptoms of depression by combatting the feelings of loneliness and isolation. Pets come in all shapes and sizes, but particularly dogs have been proven to help improve the well-being of many older adults. So, as the animal shelters start to fill up with unclaimed animals, remember these animals might be exactly what the doctor ordered. For more information on how to adopt a pet, please visit your local SPCA.
